Notes About Working @ RIVER INN and SNOWY VALLEY

Most of our positions are based on permanent part time seasonal employment usually commencing sometime in June depending on snow and business.

Accommodation is available, and the rent will be specified in your contract and often includes some meals and a bed in a share room. The rooms can be shared with up to 4 or 6 others. Linen is supplied. Accommodation is conditional of employment with us ie. If you cease employment with us you also cease to be able to occupy the accommodation. More information will be given at interviews. You will be required to have your rent paid via pay deduction.

You can expect to work for about 3-4 months, this is once again subject to snow and business. Mostly you will work between a five and six day week with a mix of shifts.  You may be asked to work in other areas if necessary as we always work as a team here. You must be prepared to work hard – this may be a winter resort and everyone else is on holidays, but you are working and we expect a good day’s work for a good day’s pay.  Skiing and boarding are encouraged as a healthy activity, but your first commitment will need to be to your job.  We also ask that you commit for the entire season and that you have a mature and logical outlook on life.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are adequately covered for hospital and ambulance insurance. If you injure yourself and you need ambulance transport the closest hospital is in Cooma, this will cost you over $800! We strongly recommend that you take out adequate medical and ambulance cover.

We also advise staff to have at least $1,000 saved, you should also have extra money to guard against a slow start to the season. If it dumps there is plenty of work for everyone, but if the snow is no good, we might not have as many hours to offer, so you need cash to fall back on.  You will also need to consider costs such as a seasonal lift pass and national park pass for your car if applicable. Work is snow-dependent and there is no defined start or end date. During peak season there will be plenty of work available.
